Nothing is on the record yet. Year 10 marks don’t count toward the ATAR, so it’s the last pressure-free window to rebuild fundamentals properly instead of patching them between SACs. Habits compound. A student who learns how to study in Year 10 – real notes, spaced practice, honest self-testing – carries that system straight into Units 1&2 and 3&4. Already doing a VCE subject in Year 10?

Acceleration is now common and officially supported: VCAA’s handbook is explicit that “there are no prerequisites for entry into Units 1, 2 and 3,” and the Victorian Government’s subject-selection guidance notes that “some schools offer Unit 1 and 2 to students in Year 10. This is a good way to find out if you like that subject area and get a head start on VCE.” The catch nobody mentions: an accelerated Year 10 is competing with students a year older from day one.
