The #1 VCE Physics Tutors in Melbourne
Weekly 1-on-1 VCE Physics tutoring with specialists who scored 42-47 in VCE Physics – $94/hour, including all HZ resources, in person in Melbourne or online. Physics is one of the few VCE subjects that scales up – in the 2025 VTAC report a raw 30 became a 32 – and 8,124 students took Unit 3 in 2025 (VCAA). The marks are rarely lost on knowing the physics: they are lost applying it to unfamiliar scenarios, on units and uncertainty, and on an A3 notes sheet built badly. A specialist tutor fixes exactly that. Start with a free 30-minute trial – and we will be honest in that trial if we do not think you need us.
Key takeaways
- Physics scales up: 2025 scaled mean 31.7 – a raw 30 became 32, a raw 40 became 42 (VTAC). One of the few VCE subjects where the scaled score beats the raw one.
- Assessed on the current study design (Units 3&4 from 2024): Unit 3 SACs 30% + Unit 4 SACs 20% + one 120-mark exam worth 50% – Thursday 12 November 2026, 9:00am.
- The exam’s unique privilege: one folded A3 sheet (or two taped A4 sheets) of pre-written notes, plus a scientific calculator – and VCAA provides the formula sheet. Building that A3 well is a season-long project, not a night-before scramble.
- We tutor to the current design – fields, electricity generation, light and matter, and the practical investigation the way the 2024-2027 design frames them.
Why Physics rewards a specialist tutor
Physics has a reputation as the hard science, but the students who lose marks usually understand the physics – they lose them in application. The exam gives you 20 multiple-choice marks and then 100 marks of scenario questions: fields in contexts you have never seen, “show that” questions where the working is the mark, graphs where the gradient or area is the answer, and uncertainty and significant-figure hygiene that quietly bleeds a mark at a time. Then there is the A3 sheet: most students stuff it with formulas VCAA already provides on the formula sheet, instead of the worked exemplars and traps that actually help under time pressure. A weekly specialist fixes all of it – your tutor marks your working the way an assessor would, drills application on unfamiliar problems, and engineers your A3 sheet with you across the year.
Tutors who scored 42-47 in VCE Physics
Our VCE Physics tutors scored between 42 and 47 in the subject themselves – in a subject that scales up, that band converts to scaled scores in the mid-40s and beyond. You are matched to a Physics specialist, not a generalist who “also does Physics” – then you meet them in a free 30-minute trial before you commit to anything. If the fit is not right, we replace your tutor free at any time. John from our team will text and email you within 5-10 minutes of enquiring, 7 days a week.
How we teach VCE Physics (current study design)
Unit 3 – how fields explain motion and electricity. Motion in two dimensions, gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, and electricity generation. Your tutor drills the field models from the design’s own framing until you can apply them to any scenario the exam invents – satellites, particle accelerators, transformers – and builds the working habits that “show that” questions reward.
Unit 4 – light, matter and the practical investigation. The wave and particle nature of light and matter, relativity, and the student-designed practical investigation – where method, measurement and uncertainty skills earn real marks. This is where Physics stops being formula recall: the high-mark questions ask you to connect models to data under time pressure, and we train that connection explicitly.
Exam technique, all year. Section A is 20 multiple-choice marks that reward disciplined elimination. Section B is 100 marks across 19 questions – answered to the scenario and the data, with units, significant figures and uncertainty treated as marks, not formalities. And the A3 sheet is built deliberately across the year: worked exemplars, common traps and setup diagrams – not a formula dump, because VCAA already hands you the formula sheet.
How VCE Physics is assessed in 2026
| Assessment | Weight | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Unit 3 School-assessed Coursework | 30% | Three SAC tasks (10% each) |
| Unit 4 School-assessed Coursework | 20% | Two SAC tasks (10% each) |
| End-of-year exam – Thu 12 Nov 2026, 9:00am | 50% | 120 marks: Section A 20 multiple-choice (20 marks) + Section B 19 questions (100 marks); 15 min reading + 2 hours 30 writing; one folded A3 of pre-written notes + scientific calculator permitted, formula sheet provided |

Does Physics scale up? Yes – here is what that means
In the 2025 VTAC scaling report, Physics’ scaled mean was 31.7: a raw 30 became 32, a raw 40 became 42. We are just as upfront about this as we are when a subject scales down – scaling reflects how the cohort competes, and the Physics cohort is strong, which is exactly why every rank you climb is worth more. The same rule still applies: never pick a subject on scaling alone. But if you are doing Physics anyway, it is one of the few subjects where the scoreboard is tilted in your favour – and where specialist coaching compounds.
Pricing: simple and weekly
$94/hour, including all HZ resources – notes, SAC-style questions, exam walkthroughs and your tutor’s own materials. Lessons run weekly because that is what moves study scores: consistent marking, feedback and rank strategy across the year, not cramming. No lock-in contracts, no join fees, and no marketplaces where quality is a lottery: with HZ you know the price, you know the tutor’s credential band, and you meet them free before spending a dollar. VCE Physics tutoring FAQs
Is VCE Physics hard?
It is demanding, but not in the way most students expect. The concepts are learnable – the difficulty is applying them to unfamiliar scenarios under time pressure, showing working that earns the mark, and keeping units, significant figures and uncertainty clean. That is also why Physics responds so well to specialist coaching: application is a trainable skill, and the subject scales up, so improvement is rewarded twice.
How is VCE Physics assessed in 2026?
Unit 3 SACs contribute 30%, Unit 4 SACs 20%, and the end-of-year exam 50% of your study score. The exam is 120 marks in 2 hours 30 minutes (plus 15 minutes reading): Section A has 20 multiple-choice questions worth 20 marks and Section B has 19 questions worth 100 marks. In 2026 it runs on Thursday 12 November at 9:00am.
Does Physics scale up or down?
Up. In 2025 a raw 30 scaled to 32 and a raw 40 to 42 (VTAC scaling report, scaled mean 31.7). Physics is one of a handful of VCE subjects where scaling works in your favour – a reflection of its strong cohort, and a reason well-coached improvement pays off twice.
What can you bring into the VCE Physics exam?
One scientific calculator and pre-written notes: one folded A3 sheet, or two A4 sheets bound together by tape. VCAA also provides the formula sheet – which is why a good A3 is full of worked exemplars, setup diagrams and traps, not formulas you already get for free. We build it with you across the year.
How much does VCE Physics tutoring cost?
$94/hour with HZ, including all our resources, on a weekly schedule. The first session is a free 30-minute trial with your matched Physics tutor – and we will tell you honestly in that trial if we think you do not need us.
When should we start Physics tutoring?
Before SAC ranks settle, ideally – Unit 3 alone is 30% of the study score. But Physics rewards starting at any point: application skills and the A3 sheet compound over months, and the exam is half of everything. If you are reading this close to the exam, a specialist helps you triage what is still winnable – and makes sure the A3 you walk in with actually earns marks.
