Description

In General Maths, students lose marks on technique, not content.

Six straight VCAA General Mathematics examiner reports (Exam 1 and Exam 2, 2023 through 2025) keep repeating one uncomfortable fact: you know how to run a Finance Solver and build a transition matrix. You lose the mark because you read the sign wrong, rounded too early, or answered the total when the question asked for the reduction. Cram for VCE General Mathematics 2026 fixes that layer – the one your notes never mention. Every trap, percentage and mark average traces to a real report; where the evidence itself is uncertain, we flag it rather than fake certainty.

This is not a textbook. It is a 45-page, technique-first playbook mapped to the current VCAA Mathematics Study Design 2023-2027 (General Mathematics Units 3 & 4).

What is inside (45 pages):

  • Part 1 – The Assessorโ€™s Playbook: rounding discipline (the single most repeated theme in the entire corpus), โ€œshow thatโ€ and full-working rules, answering the precise quantity asked, CAS/Finance-Solver technique, and presentation marks – the highest-leverage section in the guide.
  • Parts 2-5 – the four compulsory Areas of Study, examiner-first: Data analysis, Recursion and financial modelling, Matrices, and Networks and decision mathematics – each taught as โ€œhere is where the marks leak.โ€
  • Part 6 – The Final 72 Hours and the complete Trap Ledger: all 32 documented traps from the 2023-2025 reports, each with its year, exam, and mark evidence.

One trap, so you can see the level:

Rounding when you were not told to (2024 Exam 2 Q1e; 2025 Exam 2 Q3). In 2024 a coefficient of determination needed to be 85.7%, and examiners noted โ€œsome rounded to 86% in a question where rounding did not apply.โ€ In 2025 the answer needed to be 83.85%, not 84%. A perfectly correct calculation, rounded off when it should not have been, was marked wrong. If the question does not say โ€œcorrect to,โ€ give the exact value. Rounding is the single most repeated instruction across all three years of reports.

Who wrote it: the HZ Tutoring 98+ ATAR General Maths team – tutors who sat this exam, scored in the top band, and now mark HZ studentsโ€™ practice papers. Every guide is checked by our subject specialists. We do not sell more notes; we sell the highest-yield pages: rounding discipline, CAS sign conventions, and the precise wording that gets the tick.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a set of notes? No. It assumes you already have the content. It is a technique guide for the run-in to the exam: how VCAA examines each idea, where students drop marks, and the exact wording that earns them.

Which study design and exams is it built from? The current VCAA Mathematics Study Design 2023-2027 (General Maths Units 3 & 4) and the 2023, 2024 and 2025 examination reports for both Exam 1 and Exam 2. No VCAA exam questions are reproduced; every trap is paraphrased with the year and question referenced.

How is the exam structured? Two technology-active exams, each 1 hour 30 minutes and each worth 30% of your study score. Exam 1 is 40 multiple-choice questions (40 marks); Exam 2 is written extended-answer (60 marks), split 24 Data analysis / 12 Recursion and financial modelling / 12 Matrices / 12 Networks and decision mathematics. You may bring approved CAS and one bound reference.
